Bear Paw K9 encompasses both Scents Ability Search Dogs and von Kimarainn German Shepherds. I primarily train and handle my own HUMAN SCENT DETECTION dogs for Search and Rescue (SAR) and Law Enforcement needs.
I bred this litter of pups to obtain my own personal dogs. I did not undertake this venture lightly. My loyalties lie first and foremost with my puppies and I will not place them just to place them.
Fagan- 2.5 years old- "Must share with you: My niece was here over the weekend, and ended up hospitalized with pancreatitis. She was released to spend Monday night here before catching a plane home...From the moment she came into our house, Fagan was by her side. (He's never met her before.) He sat by her chair, followed her to the bathroom, slept on the foot of her bed - never crowding, just there. When I got up during the night as old people are wont, he just raised his head to look at me, thumped his tail, and remained by her side. She told me in the morning how comforting it was to have him there...I am constantly and consistently amazed by this dog, Kim. He's something special; even his heart is beautiful. Just thought you'd like to know."
"Hi Kim, You are awesome! Your honesty and your desire to have Koa go to the home that suits her best makes me respect you more than ever and I already have a high opinion of you. You are a rare breeder and I appreciate you and the way you think. You genuinely care about your puppies and what happens to them, in addition to wanting your puppy buyers to be happy. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and especially for loving your dogs so much."

Puppy Testimonials
From Maureen,
Hello, Kim -
I spent the morning fielding compliments that rightly belong to you. We went downtown and cruised the Farmer's Market. There were lots of people, and kids, and strollers, and wagons, and dogs, and chatter, and things to see - and he enjoyed the whole thing. He SAT when people talked to him - and we haven't worked on SIT at all. He confidently approached two labs, a schnoodle, a golden, and two other I-Give-Up's (little terrier things...) and wagged. He gave puppy kisses to a three-year-old girl, and said howdy to a man in a wheelchair.
It's his second time on a leash for me, and it was loose the whole time...
... until the end, when we were leaving. About 1/2 a block from where we parked, he started running a bit ahead of me - first time all outing. I thought he was looking for a "spot", so I let him. Nope.
HE KNEW WHERE THE CAR WAS.
He ran ahead to it and SAT.
Thoroughly blew me away. He's been in it twice, and there were lots of parked cars on that street. Whoaaa.
I've never had a pup with this level of confidence and sociability. I expect pups to be at least taken aback by bikes, strollers, wheelchairs, screaming babies, etc. He wasn't at all. And then, of course, there's that pure CHARM of his - dancing eyes, laughing grin, and his manners. Happy to walk along and look at stuff; equally happy to stop and chat.
(And then took a two-hour nap when we got home...)
You can imagine what people said about and to him - his beauty, his attitude, his size, his carriage. Although several people asked what kind of dog he was (!!!), everything was absolutely glowing. I wish you could have heard this all. I'm not responsible for this, Kim - I've had him for six DAYS. He was like this when I got him. Be very proud of him - he's definitely a credit to you.
He's impressive.
He'll go see my vet next week. Of course I'll fill you in. In the meantime, I'll keep trying for pictures!

.....and another from Maureen on Fagan:
He couldn't have been more charming! And interested, and affable, and unflappable.
Ten weeks old today - and 23.5 lbs. My vet says he's gorgeous - but you knew that.
The heat and humidity have been awful this week. It's slowed down our being out and about and socializing a bit. Don't worry that he's left out in it; this fella appreciates air conditioning. AND helping me watering the flowers is his favorite activity - besides deviling Sorcha - who's constantly dropping toys on him to play. He's working on COME and SIT. He knows HOUSE! because it involves a treat when he comes in - and sure beats looking for a black baby in the dark who's not consistent with COME yet. He's (or I am) 90% housebroken by now - and has yet to mess his kennel. Maybe one accident every coupla days in the house. He doesn't fuss about being in his kennel for down time or nighttime. Water bottles are still a favorite toy. He's not crazy about the vacuum or the hairdryer, but expresses it by just walking away - no hiding or cowering.
I'm simply having a great time with him. He's a joy to have around. I don't think I've ever had one so affectionate at this age, so willing to be scratched and nuzzled and petted and who will sit in my lap while being cossetted. Don't misunderstand - he's into everything, and underfoot and ripping through the house at top speed with something stolen in his mouth too - but I'm thoroughly enjoying his ability to enjoy affection. He's a great guy.
Thank you again - for all you've done for me.
Maureen
